Hotel Hafen in Hamburg is one of the oldest hotels in Hamburg. Originally built as Hamburg’s seafarer’s home then many years later it was reopened as a hotel. It contains a lovely collection of historical and authentic maritime equipments that are displayed in different places of the hotel. The rooms, lounge and dining area are nice and have a modern style. The mix between authentic and modern gives Hotel Hafen a special atmosphere. The "Residenz" or "Residential" is a modern extension to the original hotel.
Hotel Hafen Hamburg has a magnificent view overlooking the harbor. In addition to its unique location near the "Uban" or metro station. Also the bus and boat tours are only minutes walk from the hotel. It is so much fun to have a walk in the area around the hotel specially by the harbor, enjoying the scenery of huge ships while having a delightful snack from the numerous dining places around the harbor.
The main negative point faced not only at the hotel but in the city in General that everything is in German language; menus, tours, directions, etc. A difficult thing for tourists who don't speak German, but on the other hand many people have a good knowledge of English and that is a great help:)
The city itself is nice there are lots of museums and places to visit. Most touristic places are open daily, only a couple that may require a prior reservation "Dungeons" and "Miniature land". Stores and Shopping malls are closed on Weekends (Saturday - Sunday)
Hamburg is expensive if not in sale, though shopping for LEGO and Play-MOBIL was always fun.
Finally, don't forget to try one of the nice bakery shops found in Hamburg. They have very nice bakery shops that offers a lovely variety of sandwiches, cakes and other delicious baked stuff. So yummy with a perfect cup of coffee. Another final tip, while you are in Hamburg and if you like eating fish don't miss going to one of the nice fish restaurants there. Enjoy;)
